If you are anything like me you love those little furry four legged friends that roam around that house just as much as you do any other member of your household. You may even love them a little more J It’s not secret that here in the USA we treat our pets like people. In that same line of thought, we all know that we will most likely be buying our pets some kind of Christmas gift. Although that have no idea what Christmas is about and chances are they don’t remember that toy or bone you bought them last year, they are sill quite willing to take another fun toy or treat this year!
Problem is, we head to the pet store and before we know it we could have bought our kids a new Ipod Touch with the money that we just spent on just a few toys for Fido. Yes, they love those loud squeaky toys! So, instead of paying through the nose for one at the local pet store… head to the dollar store and grab a few rubber duckies. Believe me, they are just as safe and when your dog rips it’s head off, he or she is not going to be thinking about where you got it or how much you paid for it.
If you happen to have a furry (or not so furry) friend that is confined to a cage such as a rabbit, hamster or a gerbil then my guess is you don’t want to hear a loud toy all night long! Why not try a salt block or the classic spinning wheel? The salt block should last for months and it won’t keep you up at night. It’s even healthy for them and will provide them with the vitamins and minerals they need.
If you have a chewer in your family, why not go for a stocking full of raw hide. Some dogs have a hard time digesting the raw hide and it may be a mess for you to clean up. If you know that your baby is okay with it then take a minute to look at the department stores or at your local farm supply store. Usually they are about 15-20 % less than there than they are at the big pet stores. If you do have a pet that doesn’t do well with raw hide, go the same route but try pig ears instead. It’s a little more expensive but usually dogs digest it with ease. Keep in mind, both of these things are great for their teeth and can keep them busy during the day when you may be away at work.
If you have a granddog or you are an aunt or uncle to a pet, keep in mind that flea collars and wormers are not the best presents. Let that be mom or dads job. Stick to the stuff that was mentioned above. You can always go for a nice comfy bed. A lot of sites are offering free shipping through the holiday season.
