The countdown to New Years is on. If you have been a local Washingtonian in the past you know that New Years Eve here can be a blast. Unfortunately it also has a history of crime and if you are caught in the wrong place at the wrong time it can be very dangerous. This year the DC area has a few new options for you that are safe, fun and affordable. I have taken the time to go through and pick out what I thought were really appealing to just about anyone. Hopefully you will find something that fits you!
Of course we all want to be with the one that we love on New Years Eve. When the clock strikes twelve there is nothing more romantic than having that special someone there to kiss the new year in with. The Spirit Of Washington is offering a New Years Eve Couples Cruise. Boarding time is 8:30 and the cruise will begin at 9:00, lasting four hours, ending at 12:30. There will be an open bar for all as well as a DJ the entire night. Each couple will receive one free keepsake boarding photo. The view of the Potomac is spectacular and the decorations onboard are dazzling. The fee is $164.00 per person and you must be 21 or over with a valid ID to board.
Maybe you are looking for a soothing and somewhat quiet New Years Eve. If so, New Years Eve at the Kennedy Center may be just what you need. The National Symphony Orchestra and special guest artist are presenting the annual fun-filled tradition. Guest conductor Murry Sidlin will be present along with soprano, Arianna Zukerman, pianist Stewart Goodyear, and members of the National Symphony Orchestra. Aside from good music and tons of talent there will also be a sing along and a vote to hear to hear your favorite classic. Prices range from $50 - $90 depending on seating and the show will last two hours and fifteen minutes.
Of course we can’t leave out all of your party animals. There are so many things to do in the DC area that I couldn’t possibly list them all. I chose what I thought to be the two best ideas along with the best “bang for your buck”! First of all we have the ever popular Downtown Countdown. It’s promised to be a night you will never forget, that is if you are sober enough when its all over J ! A regular ticker will get you a 5-hour premium open bar, upscale hors d’oeuvres, and multiple rooms of entertainment with 3 bands, 4 DJs, 5 comedians, dancing, karaoke, and DC’s largest midnight balloon drop . As with most places you must be 21 or above to enter with a valid ID. Tickets start at $129 per person.
If you want the DC atmosphere without the trip into the city don’t fret. There is always the National Harbors “Big Night DC”. There will be seven rooms of fun all for one price. They include the Mardi Gras Ballroom and Stage, ShamrockFest Ballroom and Stage, Retro Ballroom (Best of 70s, 80s & 90s dance tunes), Hip Hop Ballroom, Electronica Club Ballroom, Dining Ballroom and the Chill Zone. VIP event guests enjoy access to all these areas, plus special areas designated just for them, including private top-shelf bars and a Casino Lounge. Of course there is a open bar all night for all included and a huge celebration at midnight! Tickets are 129.99 per person and the event will be held from 9:00PM to 2:00AM.
Where ever you end up I certainly hope you and yours have a very happy and safe New Years!
