Carroll St., Frederick, MD (View Map) Description: This is an informal discussion group about getting the most out of (not for) your old records. Its purpose is to make better-informed record buyers and collectors. It is lead by Steve Smolian, a long-time collector, local dealer (he sells all kinds of records across the street at Cannon Hill Place, www.frecords.biz.), collection appraiser, audio preservation engineer and writer about records. We’ve scheduled an hour of shellac record lore on the first Sunday of each month: half an hour on a particular topic, half an hour of “ask Steve.” Interactivity is greatly encouraged. Much of what we’ll be chatting about is covered on line with varying degrees of accuracy. When: First Sunday of the month 11:AM -12:00 noon, May 6 and thereafter. Where: Joannie’s Carroll Street Café. 124 S. Carroll St., Frederick, MD. Bring your laptop, phone, ouija board, etc. ; Joannie’s has wi-fi and, perhaps, ghosts. Great waffles are a good reason to show up, even if you hate music. This is not the time and place to have your records appraised. If you wish to sell records, contact Steve to set up a time.
