Clarksburg Town Center Farmers' Market

Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Location: Clarksburg Town Center (View Map)

Description: Residents of the greater Clarksburg community, local farmers and Newland Communities are hosting the Clarksburg Town Center Farmers Market beginning June 7. The farmers market will be open to the public each Sunday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the intersection of Public House Road and Ebenezer Chapel Drive in Clarksburg. The market will highlight products from several area farmers including locally grown seasonal fruits and vegetables. The market will offer goods from other local food vendors and artisans and feature live musicians and other family entertainment. Local farmers Scenic View Orchards, Summer Creek Farms, Abundant Grace Farm and Moxley Farm will offer a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, cider, eggs and honey. Other local food merchants will offer a selection of foods to eat on-site or take home, including crepes, eggs, bread, pastries, meat, Thai specialties and herbs. The farmers market will also feature Fresh Give!, a program that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to Montgomery County families in need. Fresh Give! encourages local businesses to donate money to the market to purchase unsold fresh produce that is then donated to Manna Food Center in Montgomery County. The program offers numerous benefits for the local community such as providing deserving families with fresh, healthy foods, helping local farmers generate additional revenue and allowing businesses to make charitable contributions and collect tax benefits. A host of festivities are planned for opening day on June 7 including live music featuring the Jimmy Purdum Band and special childrens activities including a hay maze. An artisan and craft showcase and RE/MAX hot air balloon will also be on site.

Clarksburg Town Center Farmers' Market
Date: 9/13/2009

Location: Landmark Executive hanger at Frederick Municipal Airport (View Map)

Description: The live benefit auction and dance will be located in the Landmark Executive hanger at Frederick Municipal airport. Tickets will go for the price of $30 dollars, $10 of which can be put toward an auction item. All proceeds will benefit AHYF. The evening will also serve as a time to honor the four lives lost in the helicopter crash that occurred on the night of July 23rd, 2009 when friends and employees of AHYF were killed after attending an event to raise money for the foundation. In their memory, the foundation will persevere with the work of raising money for at-risk youth. Neal Lanning, founder of AHYF, This will be an evening to remember and the genesis of a yearly event that Im sure will become an exciting staple in local residents social calendar. Funds raised during the evenings event will benefit two recipients: Advent Home and Teen Challenge USA. Advent Home Learning Center, based in Calhoun, Tennessee, is a remedial Christian school for 12 to 18-year-old at-risk boys with special academic and behavioral needs, currently housing 32 students. They may be struggling with school dismissal, low self-image, and family problems. Tuition fees are quite expensive for families and oftentimes not covered by traditional insurance. AHYF stands to serve those families desperate for a healing alternative school in a minimum distraction environment. More information about Advent home can be found at www.adventhome.org. Teen Challenge is a Christian organization that successfully works with people who have life-controlling problems and are without the necessary resources and opportunities to live productively. Using both residential and outreach programs, Teen Challenge is the oldest and largest private agency in America working in this field. More information about the Maryland branch of Teen Challenge USA can be found at www.teenchallengeusa.com/maryland/. Tickets are available to purchase online through the foundation website, www.AHYouthFoundation.org or over the phone at 301.694.5313 About the foundation: In June of 2009, Advanced Helicopter Youth Foundation (AHYF) was established by helicopter pilots to heal families with an at-risk child before a crisis is reached in the home, by promoting, advancing, and facilitating affordable, durable and compassionate mental health care. The foundation stands to raise funds and awareness for charities that operate on the front-lines helping Americas at-risk youth. As a nonprofit organization, AHYF relies upon the generosity and ongoing support of grants, private donors, gifts and the help of volunteers.

'Smooth Swing' Dance at Cafe 611 every Tuesday
Date: 9/29/2009
Time: 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Location: 611 N. Market Street Frederick MD 21701 (View Map)

Description: Tuesdays at 6:30pm Keith Barney will teach a 30 minute 'basics' lesson followed by 30 minutes of 'beyond basics' class and then a DJ dance until 9. The music played will be Pop and R&B. No partner required. We will have color coded name tags for singles. Meet new friends while getting exercise and learning a new skill. Our goal is to prepare beginners with the skills to be able to dance to slow, medium, and fast music and provide more experienced dancers with a consistent venue in downtown Frederick. Smooth Swing is a modern dance that ranges from smooth and sultry to dynamic and exciting depending on the tempo of the music. It incorporates movements from other dances such as Latin, Jazz, Lindy Hop, Jive, and Balboa. There is a $7.00 admission fee. A full dinner menu as well as a kids menu are available. There are TVs for your well-behaved kids and you will be able to see them from the dance floor. Cafe 611 is located conveniently to Hood College and has ample street parking.
