Festa Italiana Frederick is a rain or shine event to be held from the hours of 11am to 6pm. Ron Cramer, Executive Director of the Frederick Habitat for Humanity, shares “Our organization is excited to produce this event; a first event of its kind in Frederick. At the Frederick Habitat, we are all about supporting families, so this family-friendly activity is right in line with our mission”.

The festival food committee has selected a most delicious and appetizing menu for attendees and will prepare most items from scratch. During the festival, your mouth will water over the variety of entrées such as homemade lasagna and fettuccine Alfredo, Italian sausage sandwiches abs fresh pizza by Papa Murphy’s. Italian desserts like tiramisu and cannoli, as well as Rita’s Italian Ice, will complement the authentic recipe entrees. The wine garden will feature a variety of Italian wines, beer and non-alcoholic refreshments.

Fr. Leo Patalinghug, a parish priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the host and founder of Grace Before Meals, an apostolate to strengthen families and communities around the dinner table, will do a cooking demo of an Italian favorite from 1:00-2:00pm. Following the demonstration, he will remain to greet guests and sign his book. In addition to authorship, Father Leo is also an internationally renowned conference speaker, author, TV host of “Savoring Our Faith” on EWTN, radio co-host of “Entertaining Truth” on Sirius XM and contributes restaurant reviews to Baltimore’s The Catholic Review. His unique background as a martial artist and break dancer helps him to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, appearing on PBS, ABC, CBS and The Food Network, where he defeated a world famous chef in the, "Throw Down! with Bobby Flay"  With food, faith and fun, Fr. Leo hopes to bring people closer together- one meal at a time!

The festival will also feature a Spaghetti Sauce Cook-Off for those who want to share their most outstanding, home-made original sauce that is award-worthy (and brings everyone to your house to Sunday night dinner!) Anyone who loves to cook can enter the judged competition for prizes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. A People’s Choice Award will also be given.  Father Leo will be one of the judges for the event! An application to participate is posted on the event website.

For the kids, a wide variety of programs are being planned including several themed crafts and  a ‘Top your Own Spaghetti Tent’ where kids can build a unique yet extraordinary pasta creation topped with a variety of fixings like gummy bears, chocolate and more! For the sports lovers, a soccer shoot out will be offered.

“Attendees can expect the ambiance of Italy at this unforgettable event. Our goal is to create a true Italian experience filled with the music, smells and sounds that take you from Frederick to Italy in your wildest imagination,” quotes Ron Cramer.  To that end, Sergio Fresco will perform traditional and modern Italian tunes.  Sergio has performed at countless functions throughout the Washington/Baltimore/Virginia areas and worked with some for the best musicians.  He released his first recording entitled “Dedicato A Voi” (Dedicated to You) in 1999.  Since then, he started incorporating vocals into his repertoire (singing in English, Italian, and even a little Spanish), and has recently released his second recording “Accordion 2 Me.”

Attendees can also expect to shop at the event by visiting one of many exhibitors who will be on-site. Local and regional artisans, crafters and business will participate in Festa Italiana Frederick to share in a day of Italian celebration.
