The Frederick Symphony Orchestra's "Winter Reveries" concert to feature sounds and spirit of the season.

Frederick, MD - The Frederick Symphony Orchestra (FSO) will be featuring two of its own, Paulela Burchill and Linda Moss, as flute soloists performing Domenico Cimarosa's Concerto for Two Flutes in G Major in two concerts on Saturday, December 14th, 2013 at 3pm and 8pm in the J.B. Kussmaul Theater at Frederick Community College. They will be accompanied by the FSO under the baton of Music Director, Elisa Koehler.

Paulela Burchill is employed by Music & Arts Center as a special order accessory buyer and works to help procure musical product for the company’s over 120 stores. She holds a B.A. from Shepherd College in Music Education and M.M.E. from Shenandoah College & Conservatory of Music. Paulela has been a member of the Frederick Symphony Orchestra as principal flutist for 16 seasons and was a featured performer in FSO’s Baroque Christmas concert in 2009 playing Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto No.2. Having served on the orchestra’s Board of Directors since 2002, Paulela also currently holds the position of the orchestra’s library manager. Other musical groups she performs with regularly are Frederick Strings, Kokopelli Woodwind Quintet, Wedgewood Winds Flute Quartet, Frederick Children’s Chorus, One God One Voice, and Zion Lutheran’s Handbell Choir. Paulela has studied flute in the studio of Dr. Frances Lapp Averitt, more recently with Nancy Mulholland and currently studies with David LaVorgna. As a fan of World Music and African drums, she enjoys participating in drum circles and also delves into Celtic music by fiddling on viola and playing tin whistle. Paulela’s husband Rob, an antique car aficionado, restores antique cars and they can often be found enjoying a countryside ride in a vintage era auto.

Linda Moss has played with Frederick orchestras for over 30 years and is a charter and current member of the Frederick Flute Choir. Linda earned her B.S. in Education at Frostburg State and her M.A. in Education at Hood College. She has played in pit orchestras for many area musicals and shares music ministry at area churches. Her most influential flute instructors were Karen Blake and William Montgomery. She is a member of the National Flute Association and Flute Society of Washington and is a flute instructor at Duet with Music. Linda is also an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Brunswick and the Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance Co. Ladies Auxiliary. After 30 years with FCPS, she currently is a 5th grade teacher at New Life Christian School.

In addition to the Flute Concerto, the FSO will be performing a number of winter and holiday classics under the direction of Elisa Koehler. Audiences are sure to be delighted by performances ofFantasia on Greensleevesby Ralph Vaughan Williams and Bach'sSerenade No. 6 in D Major, K. 239,"Serenata Notturna".Following a brief intermission, Tchaikovsky's Christmas masterpieceNutcracker Suite No. 1, Op. 71awill continue to ring in the holiday spirit. The "Winter Reveries" concerts will also feature the always popularHoliday Pops Sing-Alongwith the audience and a medley of favored holiday songs and carols inA Most Wonderful Christmas.

Be sure to arrive 30 minutes prior to the concerts' start times to attend an informal pre-concert talk led by Elisa Koehler. This special pre-concert talk will enhance your enjoyment of the music and is a perfect way start off a symphony performance.
