Local Artist Paints Sign for Cafe Nola
By: Kent Courtney

Amy Sprague, a Senior Art and Design Student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City lends her expertise to the facade of Cafe Nola.

On a beautiful August day in Historic Downtown Frederick, while on my way to another photo shoot, I stumbled across an artist painting a new sign on the front of Cafe Nola at 4 East Patrick Street.  She sent me an email telling me a little bit about herself.

I'm Amy Sprague, I was the one you photographed today painting at cafe nola.  I am an art and design student at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City in my senior year, but I am home for parts of the summer where I grew up, here in Frederick.

I used to do painting work, and show artwork at Downtime Cafe (Dave's previous cafe, before Nola) when I was in highschool. Dave needed someone to paint a descriptor over Cafe Nola, and recently asked me to help him so I did.

I love coming home to Frederick, I've always tried to be pretty involved in the art community here. I sell artwork at the Muse, and I used to share a space at the Blue Elephant. It is a great growing art community in Frederick.
