The Smithsburg Leopards came to Thumont on a cool Friday evening on October 24th and showed why they are regarded as one of the best high school football programs in the state. The Catoctin Cougars, even though they have a strong team were out played at almost evey turn of the game. The Cougar fans can only hope their team learned something from the encounter.
On a personal note this reporter was impressed with every aspect of the Leopard organization. The coach who I had the pleasure of meeting on two occasions is professional to the bone, the players are huge and dedicated, the cheerleaders are supportive and spirted, and the fans are wild. Maybe next time the Cougars will be ready for them all.
