There’s no doubt about it, Spring is in the air. The grass is greener, the birds are singing, and I’m long overdue for a pedicure. Old man Winter has bid us adieu and now it’s time to say Hello to Spring!
It’s also time to start thinking about Spring cleaning. We all want our homes to be clean, fresh, and organized to welcome in the new season, but let's face it, we're moms and we're busy.
So many of us just don’t have the time to deal with what can seem to be such a monumental task. It all becomes to overwhelming, so we just avoid it like the plague.
It doesn't have to be that way. Spring cleaning is a snap if you organize your time and focus on cleaning your home room by room. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.
Working room by room allows you to break your home down into more manageable chunks that will motivate you rather than leave you feeling burned out.
The key to using this method is to stay put and stay focused. Resist the urge to clean up other rooms or zip around the house putting things away. Don't leave until you’re done!
But before you rush off to get started, here are 6 tips that will help you get organized and complete your Spring cleaning in no time!
1.) Come up with a basic Game-Plan for each room.
Start by making a list of what you want to accomplish in each room and what supplies you'll need.
Assign a different room for each day, starting with the areas that get the most use.
Set a deadline and commit to meeting it.
2.) Don't forget the upbeat music!
Pop in your favorite Cd or crank up some tunes on your favorite radio station to keep the energy level high.
3.) Gather your supplies.
Make sure that you have everything on hand before you start. Don't wait until you're about to clean the hallway carpet only to discover that you’re all out of carpet cleaning formula.
Gather all of the supplies and tools you'll need such as: cleaners, duster, furniture polish, rags, rubber gloves, scrubbers, towels, trash bags, etc. and store them in a portable container.
That way everything’s on hand and ready to go. No zipping from room to room to find what you need, or last minute trips to Wal-mart.
4.) Get comfy and dress for the job.
Wear some of your old and comfy clothing that you won't mind getting stained or dirty. You know the ones.
5.) Purge like there's no tomorrow.
Now is the time to be ruthless when it comes to de-cluttering. If you’re not in love with it, and/or you don't use it, then by all means, get rid of it!
Donate it to your local charity. Many of these organizations will even come to your home and pick up your donations for you.
6.) Rally the troops.
It can take a lot of time and work to get a whole house cleaned and organized all on you own, so don’t go it alone if you don't have to.
Get the whole family involved to help get the job done by delegating tasks according to age and skill level. With everyone in the household working together, the job gets done a whole lot faster. Go Team!
You will be amazed at the difference you can make in your home by following this simple system. Your home will be sparking clean from top to bottom in no time!
