St. John Statue Dedication
By: Jean Wright

The St. John Regional Catholic School community gathered on Friday, October 12 for a formal dedication of the newly installed statue of St. John the Evangelist.   The life-size bronzed statue of St. John, donated by the family of the late James McSherry, Esq., is the work of award winning sculptor Jay Hall Carpenter.  Well known for his works internationally and regionally, Carpenter has created sculpture for the Washington National Cathedral, the Smithsonian, Canterbury Cathedral, West Point Military Academy, the State Capitol in Annapolis, the University of Maryland and many churches throughout the country.   Carpenter’s depiction of St. John evokes an image of his evangelization of the gospel.   The statue stands in the center of the memorial brick garden next to the school.
