Date: 12/3/2016
Time: 9:30 am to 2:00 pm
Location: Flying Dog Brewery 4607 Wedgewood Blvd Frederick, MD 21703 (View Map)

Description: Flying Dog University is partnering with Distillery Lane Ciderworks on a class that will explore the parallels between brewing beer and making cider, with each student making (and taking home) a case of their own dry-hopped hard cider. The first portion of the class – from 9:30 am to 12 pm – will be held at Distillery Lane and led by orchardist Rob Miller and head cider maker Tim Rose. There, students will tour Distillery Lane, learn the basics of making cider, and make their own hard cider, which they will then dry hop with hops specifically selected for the cider’s flavor profile. Then, the class will move to Flying Dog Brewery at 12:30 pm for lunch, a brewery tour and guided tasting of this year’s Orchard Ale, an annual collaboration with Distillery Lane, and 2015 Orchard Ale that was Foeder-aged with brettanomyces. Each student will then receive a Crowler of each beer. The cost of the class includes: Materials and ingredients needed to ferment one case of dry-hopped hard cider (fresh cider, fermentation vessel, air lock, hops and yeast) Beer and cider tastings Lunch One Crowler of 2016 Orchard Ale and one Crowler of 2015 Foeder-aged Orchard Ale
