Vietnam: It's History, Culture, and the American Experience
Did you know that Vietnamese militia fought the Chinese army to a standstill in 1979, acting out an historical and cultural imperative? This course surveys Vietnams rich history in the context of its geography and climate, tracing the countrys origins and the beginning of nationalism. Students view the collision of cultures with the West from a Vietnamese standpoint, and understand how the American experience in Vietnam influences trends in foreign policy and military thought. This interactive course, rich in visual images, concludes with a look at Vietnam today.
