A LITTLE HISTORY
Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the Carriage House Inn in Emmitsburg, Maryland offers your guest quality and gracious service in an elegant country atmosphere. Built circa 1857, the building became the Zimmerman and Maxwell Feed and Grain Warehouse in 1877. After the turn of the century, it served as a broom factory and later as a bus depot. The building first became a restaurant named the White House in 1953. Three decades later it was purchased by the Hance family and the Carriage House Inn was born. In 1998, JoAnn's Ballroom was built on the second floor of the restaurant accommodating receptions, parties and business meetings with seating up to 150 guest surrounded by rustic elegance.
Emmitsburg, Maryland is home to the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine, Grotto of Lourdes, the oldest shrine in the United States, Mount Saint Mary's University and the National Fire Academy only 15 minutes from Historic Battlefields of Gettysburg, PA. Centrally located, we are only 30 minutes from Frederick, Hagerstown and Westminster and just 1 hour from Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD and Harrisburg, PA.
