Stories and Legends
Hagan’s also earned a certain notoriety due to several unsolved mysteries involving buried treasure, murder, and ghostly sightings. Their guest list has included George Washington, Calhoun, Andrew Johnson, as well as Henry Clay. Through the years the Tavern has served varied roles: private home, resort, restaurant, tavern, inn, and, for a period in the 1930's, a speakeasy. Hagan’s Tavern has also served as a headquarters for soldiers and officers from both armies during the Civil War. There are stories of a buried treasure on one of the nearby mountainsides.
